Biddeford Saco Veteran’s Day Parade
November 11 @ 9:45 am - 12:00 pm
The communities of Biddeford and Saco are invited to the Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 11, 2017 to acknowledge the sacrifices of the men and women who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces of the United States. An Opening Ceremony will be held at 9:45 a.m., followed by the parade which will start shortly after 10 a.m.
The ceremony is at Biddeford’s Veterans Memorial Park, and the parade route goes from Biddeford’s Pool/Alfred Streets, turns right on Alfred St., turns right onto Main Street, crosses over the bridge into Saco, up to Saco’s Main Street, then right on Beach, and ends at Burns School on Middle Street.
This year’s parade features the Vietnam Veterans of America, American Legion, and AmVets as well as performances from the Thornton Academy and Biddeford High School bands, Saco and Biddeford Middle School Bands, and local scouting troops and dance troops, Maine Coastal Cruisers, among others such as Frank Galos Cheverolet, Mrs Maine America, the D.A.R., Community Bike Center, and Civil War Reenactors!
The opening ceremony will feature a very special speech by Retired Colonel Jen Fullmer. Colonel Jen Fullmer retired from the US Air Force in September of 2015 after spending 24 years serving in a variety of leadership positions to include B-1 squadron command, Chief of Staff of the Joint Interagency Task Force South, and Vice Commander of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, where she was second in command of United States Central Command’s largest air wing, responsible for combat operations and installation support for 8000 U.S. and coalition warfighters. Jen is a command pilot with more than 2,500 flight hours in the B-1 Bomber, including 90 combat missions over Afghanistan and Iraq during Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM from October 2001 to May 2014. She is currently serving as Executive Director of Boots2Roots, the only nonprofit organization in Maine specifically focused on connecting with soon-to-be veterans while they are still on active-duty to help them prepare early for a successful transition to Maine.
Since 2014, Heart of Biddeford has collaborated with local Veterans organizations to host parades to honor those who serve or have served our country, as well as to build connections in the community of Biddeford and Saco.
Parade participants and fans are invited to AmVets Post #1 for luncheon following the parade.
