Get Ready to Savor Biddeford + Saco Restaurant Week, March 17-24, 2019
Biddeford and Saco will present Restaurant Week March 17-24, where locals and visitors will have a chance to try out great locally owned restaurants, breweries, distilleries, and coffee shops. Special promotions and events throughout the week will highlight establishments, while all locals and visitors are invited to submit an entry form at participating restaurants for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to the downtown restaurant of their choice.
Heart of Biddeford initiated restaurant week in 2014 as a way to grow interest in Biddeford’s blossoming food scene. “It’s hard to believe how many amazing places have opened up since then, with even more on their way now,” remarked Heart of Biddeford Director, Delilah Poupore. “People come to Biddeford and Saco and can find so many options. Restaurant Weeks gives folks that little extra encouragement to try something new.”
The organizers continue to add a “pay it forward” element to the week, with the 6th Annual Community Soup-er, Sunday, March 17, from 5-7 at the Pepperell Center, 40 Main Street. The Community Soup-er features a diverse selection of soups donated by local restaurants, from long-time favorites like Jonesy’s Main Street Cafe to newcomers like Farm to Coast Cafe. Reilly’s Bakery, Rover Bagel, and Biscuits & Company will also provide rolls, bagels and biscuits. The $10 ticket entitles participants to two servings of soup and breads as well as a ceramic bowl made by Biddeford Middle School students. Tickets are available at the door, however it is recommended to pre-purchase tickets on EventBrite to accommodate two shifts of diners (one at 5 p.m. and one at 6 p.m.). Families of four are offered a reduced $25 family rate. A local organization is chosen as the beneficiary each year, and this year all proceeds will be donated to Seeds of Hope Neighborhood Center.
Saco Main Street and the Biddeford + Saco Chamber encouraged downtown businesses in Saco and Chamber members to participate in Restaurant Week again this year. Robert Biggs, Saco Main Street’s director, explained, “These businesses can get involved with Restaurant Week in so many different ways. And customers can go to a favorite breakfast spot, find a new place for lunch, or even explore the night life in the two cities.”
Some of the establishments will offer specials all week long, such as Reilly’s Bakery, which will give away a free donut with a purchase of coffee, and Maine Coast Roast, which has a “Buy One Get One” special for their 12 ounce brewed coffee. The Hamburger Stand has a great deal with their cheeseburger & cup of freshly cut fries for just $5. Portland Pie will offer 10% all week when diners mention Restaurant Week, and Lucky Loggers in Saco will do the same March 18-21 from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Special events will also occur throughout the week. Sunday, March 17 is a big day for the WonderBar with St. Patrick’s Day festivities from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. including live Celtic folk music from 4-8 p.m. Cowbell Burger Bar has specials all week and live music on the weekend, while Yeto’s, Biscuits & Co., and Traditions will all host special events or offer special meals created just for Restaurant Week. Stone Fort Distillery and Lady & the Mensch are participating for their first time this year, as they join a great group of establishments in Thursday night’s Local Libations Night.
Jim Labelle, who is fairly new to the position of director at the Chamber, plans to have lunch out each day during Restaurant Week. “This is a great excuse to explore our community’s food and beverage offerings, while getting to know the great small business owners who often have to get a little more creative to keep business thriving this time of the year.”
Heart of Biddeford, Saco Main Street, and the Biddeford+Saco Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to coordinate this week of promotions. Biddeford + Saco Restaurant Week is made possible with the generous support from the Presenting Sponsor, Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution.
All of the details about the week’s special offers and events can be found on the Eat Biddeford + Saco Facebook page as well as on a website created by Saco Main Street: bit.ly/EatBiddSaco. The Community Soup-er tickets are available online.
