About Us: Apex Youth Connection is a Biddeford non-profit dedicated to enriching youth through hands-on skill building and outdoor adventure by fostering meaningful mentorships and creating an environment where every youth feels safe, accepted and valued. Our free after-school program aims to provide students with healthy activities while developing skills that empower them.
Role Description: This will begin as a part time role based in Biddeford, ME, for a Bicycle Mechanic at Apex Youth Connection. The Bicycle Mechanic will work with youth aged 10-18 to assist them in building bikes as a part of our Earn-a-Bike program. Daily tasks include inspecting, repairing, and maintaining bicycles to ensure safety and functionality. Additional responsibilities include assembling bikes, diagnosing mechanical issues, and educating participants on basic bike repair techniques. Mechanics are expected to inventory equipment and maintain the bike shop. The goals for this position include program development, mentoring and youth empowerment, and customer service skills through interactions with participating youth and the general public.
Requirements:
Proficiency in bicycle repair and general maintenance and troubleshooting (we can provide supplemental training)
Strong Communication skills and the patience to educate youth and collaborate with program participants and team members
Ability to work as part of a team and with youth in a hands-on teaching environment
Passion for bikes, youth development, and community engagement is a plus
Positive attitude and enthusiasm for outdoor recreation
CPR/1st Aid Certification, or willingness to get certified
