As Biddeford continues its renaissance, the downtown has found its foodie niche. The city’s oldest establishment — Reilly’s Bakery — serves up donuts, pastries and cakes to generations of loyal customers, while continually building a new fan base. Same goes for the Italians from George’s Sandwich Shop and the personal-sized pies from Pizza by Alex.

Among the handful of longstanding establishments are businesses making a big splash. Elda was recently named one of  The 18 Best New Restaurants in America  by online food news source Eater.com. The article called owner/chef Bowman Brown’s “approach a paradigm of current modern American cooking: a short menu revealing [his] restless creativity.” Four years ago, Palace Diner found itself on a similar list — Bon Appétit magazine’s  link50 nominees for America’s best new restaurants — for Greg Mitchell and Chad Conley’s reinvention of the 1927 dining car.

From quick bites to gourmet meals, there’s something to tickle everyone’s taste buds. The only downside is all the options further complicate the age-old debate about what to do for dinner!
