There is much to do in this city by the falls! Biddeford native Emma Bouthillette offers up a guide to shopping downtown, but there is so much more to discover. Find your own adventure by exploring HeartofBiddeford.org

I grew up listening to my Mémères and Pépères talk about how downtown Biddeford had all they ever needed. When they were teenagers, they shopped in all the local stores for new outfits to go dancing in Old Orchard Beach. When I was a teenager, my friends and I went to the mall. Such is not the case anymore! Biddeford does, indeed, have everything you need from one end of Main Street to the other.

We’ll start our day of shopping at Elements: Books Coffee Beer. Why? You might ask – well, any good day of shopping should start with a good cup of coffee and a side of book browsing.

Coffee in hand, walk over to White Door Home Store to get your fix of home goods and be inspired to refinish all your furniture. You can continue shopping for the home plus self and soul at Trillium with excellently curated wares. A few doors down, don’t mistake New Morning for simply a natural food store. Pop in to browse their selection of teas, snacks, and body care.

Next up, we head past City Hall to shop for your pup at Spike Grooming and maybe inquire about a doggy spa day. Don’t pass by Klassically Kute Designs, a relatively new store to downtown, where you can pick out a fashionable outfit for your favorite little.

As we continue our way down Main Street, take a right on Washington to support local artists at Common Roots Studio. This art gallery is home to rotating vendors and a beautiful array of work.

Back toward Main Street we explore the next block of shopping. Discover some unique antiques at Vieux and then pop next door to Wooven with merchandise created by artisans in Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia. About halfway down the block you’ll discover Hills & Trails with all the outdoorsy goods for outdoorsy people.

From Main, we take a right on to Alfred Street for our last three stops of the day. First drop into newly opened Gypsy Soil. The sisters behind the shop have curated a beautiful mix of house plants, small batch perfumes and self-care products, clothing, and decor. Across the street, you’ll find the new location of suger where you can experience first-hand angelrox clothing produced just across the street in the mills. Finally, Part & Parcel welcomes you with a wonderful blend of home essentials, delicious snacks, local beer, and a tasteful selection of wine.

You’ll head back to your car from here, arms filled with shopping bags and the satisfaction of supporting your neighbors on your latest shopping spree.
